I think we as a society have grown accustomed to covering things up. The Jeffrey Epstein debacle that happened over the weekend is a prime example of that. I will leave this to the experts, as I am not one, but rather a Shonda Rhimes enthusiast and Reddit conspiracy theory thread reader, but come on…..24/7 suicide watch and he’s gone? Tricky tricky. This scandal got covered up like a millennial working woman’s dark circles from working 80 hour weeks and subsiding on K-cups and Lean Cuisines. But I digress. I always digress. But anyways, for your political scandals and wild dark circles, there’s concealer to the rescue.
I have been in denial about my dark circles for years. Just recently, after a particularly draining day dancing at Lollapalooza, I succumbed and picked up a concealer. The apparently number one concealer, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser. This concealer is apparently #1, but a lot of makeup brands claim to be #1. I have this inexplicable disdain for Maybelline and its products, despite liking that BB cream a lot, so when I say I really love this concealer and that I was wrong, you guys know that’s saying something.
Just think about how hard it is for me right now, having to admit that I really like this drugstore concealer. I know, awful, but I’m working on removing that chip on my shoulder regarding drugstore products. I will stand by what I said about drugstore dupes NOT being better than the original or even the same, but I will say that drugstore products that are independent of the high-end products are good.
I’m also biased because this concealer makes me look like I had a full night’s sleep, like I woke up for 5 am spin class, and that I had a green smoothie for breakfast. And I obviously did not do any of those things. It takes you from 0 to 100. From Jimmy from Degrassi to Champagne Papi. I swear to you, just a bit will elevate your eyes to the heavens.
It’s been a learning process, but I’ve learned that the way this concealer works best is after applying my BB cream but before my powder. I don’t blend it in with the little puff puff (although I dot the concealer along my radically awful dark circles), and then I slowly pat and blend into my face with my fingers.
See? Y’ALL saw that magic re-lift out of NO WHERE. A full night’s sleep in like thirty seconds.
I will say though, to buy a shade lighter than your skin so it really lights up your under-eye and gives it a boost. I have not tried this for contour or baking, admittedly because I do not know how to do either, but it works wonders for daily use.
ps I also like that it’s a cool click top, and that it’s not in a cruddy squeeze tube or wand. The future is now. Concealer pens are the move.
